I really liked your post, Mama Archer. It has been a while since I have posted on here. So many times we assume that Sunday School will direct their hearts toward holiness, and that they will capture the message there. But I too have contemplated the thoughts above and I believe it won't. Home is where the heart is or should be. That's where true separation from the world should be lived, spoken, and taught. The why's, the misconceptions of the world, and the deceit that Satan presents before them should be unveiled at home from those the child loves and trust the most. Good Reminder. Thanks.
By the way, I'm expecting my 7th in December and I can't tell you the joy and peace my heart has from this. (not to mention the fact that I'm getting a bit uncomfortable. :O

Sincerely,
Linda

I'm totally with you on this! Our 1st 5 kids were all born in less than 5 yrs & I got nothing but warnings about their teenage years. I love it! Teen years has been so much more fun than the baby & toddler years. My youngest 5 kids are a little more spread out, but I am looking forward to their teen years as well.

Raising children is something that takes much humility. When they reach the teen years, even more so. We have six teenagers right now, plus four who are in their twenties...and six younger ones. These teenagers of mine are far far more of a blessing to me than I could ever have imagined. But I have found I have to be respectful to them, not demanding on them, and have had to bite my tongue and let things go. To have a peaceful house in spite of the chaos and noise is an amazing thing, but it is a work! I need to be in prayer about my own spirit, so that I can be gentle and good!

Keep up the good work, and keep enjoying His blessings....

My oldest 2 sons are just turning 20 and 22. So for a whole month we will have no teenagers. Then my first "younger child" will turn 13 with three more close behind. I can tell you that my older two have been a great joy. Certainly their have been moment when my husband and I have gone to the Lord in prayer wondering how He would solve a certain problem. But overall my boys have been a great help, a great example to their younger brothers, and a great encouragement to me as I parent the little ones. I agree that each child has a free will, and there is no formula for turning out an ideal child. But we have loved them, prayed for them, invested many hours educating/training/discipling them. They know we want what is best for them and are committed to doing all we can to see them become the men God would want them to be. They know that when we confront them it is because we love them and not just because we want an easier life or more praise from friends and family. We want them to know God and to have a joy filled life of purpose and meaning. So far, they seem appreciative of that. By God's grace we are still delighted to have our adult children around--though of course we look forward with wistfulness to the day they set up a nest of their own.

I have said for years that the teenage years do not need to be filled with selfish rude teenagers. My oldest are currently 9, 8, 6 and 4 (he's coming from China so he's not here yet). It is my prayer that they will prove everyone else wrong about the teenage years! While, yes, its an adventure its not the end of the world!

Thanks for that wonderful reminder Christine! It was a great reminder to me not only of the truth that my teens are a blessing, but that it would be good for me to acknowledge that to them more often. Your God-blessed wisdom is appreciated.

I agree. My teens are my joy. I love each and everyone of them and all those horror stories are just that. Stories. Teens are a blessing.

I agree Kristine, many a discouraging word is spoken in regards to teens, but it is just as you've said, if you view them as a blessing, they are indeed a blessing. I currently have three teenagers, that number will soon enough be 5. There are days that try my patience and days that bring me pure joy. I value each child and each day, I learn from them when I can and pray for them when all I want to do is scream. Life is a journey and I am blessed and thrilled to be on this journey with my precious not-so-little anymore arrows! :) Great post.
