Learning Along the Way
It is that time again. Another school year begins and we are full of plans and ideas! Even though I am a big supporter of well laid plans, scheduling, and organization when it comes to schooling; I must constantly remind myself not to forget to learn along the way. There are many things that we can teach our children without it being a part of our well laid plans. There are many things our children learn by experience. A trip to the grocery store, library, doctor’s office, dentist, home improvement store, zoo, or nature center can be great times of learning. I have often thought that I needed to plan these trips with certain things to teach and address while there. This is a good thing but I have come to realize that by just allowing children to explore, watch, experience, and simply inserting explanation can be just as effective and less stressful that having a teaching agenda for the outing. Let me encourage you to not let yourself get stressed if an outing isn’t planned to precision. Just enjoy your time out and have fun, your children will learn along the way.

Great advice! It’s something I remind myself daily in my classroom!
