Getting An Early Start
If you know me, you are aware of the fact that I am not a morning person! I do love mornings, I really do! I love the crispness, the newness, and the beauty of the sunrise. But mornings just come too early for me! It seems that no matter what time I hit the sack in the evening it is still hard to rise in the morning.
I have committed to getting an early(earlier) start on our days this school year! I have noticed that when we rise and shine (early) we accomplish so much more. Our days are less rushed and we have more free time to spend just playing (or doing the laundry–ah the never ending pile).
One of the great joys of homeschooling is that you can get up and get started when you like. We have done that for many years, rolling out of bed at 9 or 10. This year out of necessity (so much to do so little time) we are getting up a few hours earlier than in recent years. It is difficult but seems to be helping in the ways I had hoped. There are happy faces and hearts all around when we finish our studies by lunch time! We are no longer rushed to get out the door for our extra curricular activities and dinner does not seem to be such a daunting task in the evening.
One other bonus…….
Living here in Alaska makes it all the easier to fulfill Proverbs 31:15.
She rises while it is yet night
and provides food for her household
and portions for her maidens.
Considering in the winter the sun doesn’t rise until mid-late morning that is now an easily attainable goal! (though it is an impossibility in the summer)
I knew Alaska was a good place for me! HAHA
So are you an early riser? Or a struggling night owl like me who tries to see the morning? What benefits have you noticed from getting up just a wee bit earlier?

Oh my…this is a bit of a sore spot in our house; hubby is a way-too-early morning person (like, say, 4am) and I am a night owl. Having a baby and three little girls who love to get up to see Daddy off to work makes getting up earlier for me a tad more necessary, but not truly “easy”. I don’t really struggle with getting my body up, but it’s getting my MIND up and moving that I have a problem with!
The morning just comes way too soon. I joke that I never read anything in Proverbs 31 about babies or young children!

Although I’m still not getting up as early as I’d like, I have improved in that area, and it has made such a difference in my days. Primarily because I’m actually able to get in a good quiet time before the kids are up. One of these days I’m going to start getting up early enough to do a quiet time AND exercise!

Knowing what time that the military usually starts their day, I would have thought you to be a morning person, even if not by choice! Have a great day.

LOL great post. I AM an early riser but Mike is not. He loved being able to say that he was up “at the crack of dawn”. He really loved the “sun rise” service in AK. LOL
