Sharing My Lesson Plans
I have had many ask about my lesson plans recently. I thought I would post an example for you. These are not completely filled in but it will give you an idea of what we are doing and how it is organized. I have one page for each day. My notebook then has 180 pages for 180 days of school. This also does NOT include our extra curricular activities outside of the home. This is used as a check off list. When one thing is completed we mark it off and all should be completed by the end of the day. This is a bit scrunched on here and looks cleaner when printed out. I would love to know what some of you moms use to track your lesson plans for the year.

Thanks so much. I appreciate this. It looks like something I could pull off. I will be back later tonight to study it a bit more when I have more time.

I do a similar chart for my kids, except that they each have their own chart with one week to a page and usually 6 weeks to a packet.
The studies are on the left side, M-F at the top, lessons for each day in the columns. I have found that by doing 4-8 weeks at a time (so that I can work around holidays and other important events that need a day for themselves) I can keep us all in focus without feeling overwhelmed with an entire year ahead of us! Also, I can change lessons or studies as I see fit to the needs of my kids. Sometimes Nathaniel needs to do worksheets and just spend time repeating what he has learned, and sometimes Danielle needs to back off of history a bit because it drives her crazy!
But, like you, we check things off the lists and if for some reason a lesson doesn’t get done on one day, all the lessons for the week will get done before the next week starts.

Thanks for posting this! I read your blog often, but haven’t commented in quite a while. I have a question about your scheduling a whole year at once…
Our oldest is starting first grade and this year is the first that I have done very specific lesson plans. I planned the first two weeks before we ever started, but now I am just planning a week or two at a time. I have our subjects lined out in general for the whole year (so many weeks studying Genesis, this many studying Exodus, so many studying insects, this many covering animals, etc), but I am not planning each day more than a week or two in advance.
I guess my question is this: have you been able to plan more in advance as you have grown more experienced with homeschooling, your curriculum, and your kids’ learning styles, strengths and weaknesses, or should I just set goals and go for it?

Amy–
I think you are fine just doing a few weeks at once especially if that works for you. To answer your question, YES…experience, knowing my curriculum, and knowing my children’s strengths, weaknesses, and needs have helped me immensely in scheduling so far in advance. I also DO keep things open to change if I have a child that I see is really struggling and we make adjustments. Doing my scheduling so far in advance simply frees up my time so we can accomplish more in our schooldays.
I think it is good to set goals and go for it just be open and flexible to make changes as need be!
