Even with just three of us left at home (well, T & Z come at least once a week and he eats alot!), I still have trouble with the food budget.

Some time ago, I began praying for meat and God began providing through friends who had extra game (D still needs to find someone to go hunting with). We have enjoyed moose roasts, bear sausage, and lots of venison since then!

I also have joined a group that delivers local produce weekly. Every Thursday, I get a $35 produce box, a loaf of sprouted bread and a half gallon of milk. It's amazing how that cuts down on trips to the store (of course, I know you'd have to have alot more quantity)! We always at least have vegetables!

Now I must go cook the broccoli we will be eating tonight!

We're on a tight budget and I am strict with it most of the time, but like you when we're on a school break I tend to use the saved money (from the activities) on things like take away. I always tell myself this is not good stewardship and I could be saving but then I think that us mums probably benefit just as much from the break so you've got to have balance.
I am thinking of you eating caribou and bear! It must be what overseas folk think of Aussies eating kangaroo and crocodile meat! Might I say that I have eaten neither of those but they are both popular.
Your large family is still at home so I can only imagine your grocery bill. With only two of four children at home I should not need such a loaded pantry - but then there's Justin! Just in case the kids turn up for dinner, just in case someone drops in for a cuppa etc...

What food budget? LOL
I'm totally on the same page. But I have learned that there is no way we could afford to go out to eat except possibly once a month.
