Curriculum Fair

Believe it or not, this year marks the first time this veteran homeschooler has ever gone to a curriculum fair! It was actually kind of fun. I did go with a list in my hand and only left with two items not on my list. It is a grand feeling to know that almost everything I need for next year is purchased. I could have stayed longer and would have loved to but the baby was getting fussy. Maybe that was God’s way of getting me to leave without finding things I didn’t need to buy and purchasing them. There was so much to look at. I did find a friend there who seemed a bit overwhelmed and I guess I can understand that. I, however, did not find it all that overwhelming. It was more fun than anything. I have decided to go again next year and possibly spend some more time there. I doubt I will attend any of the workshops. I would rather spend my time flipping through the curriculum and the fun things available.

What has been your experience? Have you been to a curriculum fair? Do you enjoy them? I think it is a bit like a child in a candy store!

I have been to two. One when I was teaching at a Christian school before I had kiddos and one last summer. I love them! Hubby came with me to the homeschool one. We are going again this year if we can. We went to workshops/seminars that were awesome! I left there so ready for the new year and blessed and encouraged more than I can tell you. It is so much fun to look at all the goodies that are for sale and get new ideas.

We’ve had a few mini fairs here. One or two businesses only. Once I went to a large one in Brisbane – very overwhelming! The friend and I who attended had about eight children in tow! The workshops didn’t happpen.
I am amazed that you came away with only two items not on your list! After many years of home schooling I realise I have way too many books. They all have looked great, and some have been invaluable, but many resources have gone unutilised. Sometimes just getting through the required work is a stretch let alone all the lofty extras!
I am determined to clear out some time soon. Plenty of new starters here who will be looking for stuff.

I wish I had known about the IDEA fair…I’m sure it was mentioned to me but I didn’t follow up and we missed it! On one hand, I’m okay with it, because I feel pretty well-planned for next year…and everything I don’t already have, I’m planning to get at Chickabiddy books. Glad you enjoyed it! :)

I plan to go this Saturday to the big convention in Arlington. I’ve been a couple times, and always enjoy it. I agree with you about the speakers. I like looking at the books and art supplies. :)
