Snow Sculptures
Last week we went to check out the snow sculpture competition in Anchorage during Fur Rondy. Each team of sculptors is given an 8x8x8 block of packed snow and they begin carving. There are many photos HERE if you want to see the beginning blocks and preparations. “The Three Dudes” which was my favorite won first place! Here are some photos of my favorite.

Those are the neatest sculptures. I would love to be able to see these in person.

Those are fantastic! I have seen some snow sculptures up close, but these look far more intricate than I’ve seen.
Great shots.

Wonderful photos!
I am amazed at what talent some people have for such things as sculpture. Often, it seems sad that they work in a temporary medium like snow, ice or sand, and photos are the only way of preserving the work. Well doneQ

Very inspiring examples of art. I used to enjoy ice sculptures in February events in Ohio when we lived up north. Now as a missionary to Mexico, the only ice we see comes in the form of ice cream cones. Thanks for the chilly taste of Alaska.

Well, we also have the ice of the Popocatépetl glacier
but of course the cream one is nicer

the sad thing with these Ice sculptures is that they will melt someday… but anyway they are really looking beautiful and much nicer than the ones I have made myself when I was young
