2nd Installment of Slip Sliding Away

Well, now my son slid his truck off the road into the top section of the creek! You cannot tell from this photo but when the snow is melted he is sitting on about a 6 foot drop!  Have a look!

Slip Sliding Away

I have been enjoying the warm Shinook winds blowing through the last two days.  Here in Alaska we have had temperatures that have been similar to Texas and Florida.  The winds have now reached appoximately 100 mph and are melting everything.  However with so much on the ground there is now a ton of ice!  The snow is melting and refreezing overnight.  Our house sits on a hill, a small hill for around here but a hill none the less, and is now a huge sheet of ice.  Here is the view from our driveway.

First, is our van.  Why my hubby even thought of taking it out to help pull the jeep out or to go into town is beyond me. It is now stuck half way down the hill sitting on about 6 inches of ice which is covering our road.  You can see our jeep further down the road. Next, is the jeep.  It was the first to go.  It might not look that bad but the front tire is sitting on snow that is in the creek.  There is a 4 foot drop into the creek and if the snow melts faster than it is going to take to pull it out we are in trouble.  Lastly,  the neighbor lady’s truck.  She is stuck in about a foot of snow at the top of the hill.  She slid down her hill, tried to turn and landed there.  What a fun and exciting morning!  Our other neighbor pulled two people out of the ditch and saw two sand trucks in the ditch with in blocks of our home.  That should have been a sign for all to stay home today!002
