Pondering What to Write
Since Monday around here is my “Pondering” day it is a good thing that I sat here pondering what to write. I decided to go to my blogline reader which I have not been reading in over a week. I was hoping to catch up with my blogging friends and hoping that it might spark some ideas. Where do you start when you have over 800 entries to read? I came upon an entry of an individual who has been a blessing to me and someone who always seems to leave some good comments with good content. He is having a bit of a blogging crisis; one which I have often struggled with. Am I really making a difference with this blogging thing and what is the point. You can read his post HERE.
I have come to realize, that maybe what I do here on my blog really doesn’t matter and no one would notice if I stopped. I have to be ok with that. God often does let me know that in some small way there are people out there that have been touch and God has used this blog to do that. I am awed and so grateful for that fact. God can and does use what seems to be so insignifigant. I long to have one of those “popular” blogs with robust discussion that has an impact that is evident to all. Then I realize that the focus is on me when I think that way. As long as I am seeking to glorify my Lord and Savior then that is all that matters. All the rest is just icing on the cake.
What is your purpose in blogging? Is it just a hobby? A way to document your family life? Do you view it as a ministry? How do you overcome the “what do I write” or the “it needs to be crammed with substance to be good” roadblocks when you really have nothing to give that day? How do you keep your focus? How do you justify the time you spend blogging? Do you, or have you ever struggled with this yourself? Can you lend us your encouragement or share your struggle?

Thank you Ana! I just know that this is something I often struggle with and have noticed others do as well. Maybe what you just posted is something for us all to think about; just letting those blogger we read know every so often and again that we appreciate them. That may be a new goal for me, to try and let them know more often.

What is your purpose in blogging? It’s the only means available to me to get all the words out of my head.
How do you overcome the “what do I write” or the “it needs to be crammed with substance to be good” roadblocks when you really have nothing to give that day? Don’t post. OR better yet, forget all the other blogs and read Scripture. That always gives me something to talk about.
How do you justify the time you spend blogging? Do you, or have you ever struggled with this yourself? I do struggle with this. Hubby keeps me accountable with the occasional use of the computer password. LOL. I want to share my thoughts but I want my ministry to be MY children.
My blog’s not that big of a deal though. LOL.

Daisy- I really like what you said about not reading other blogs but reading scripture! That is such a great point. That way we are focussed on Christ and not on the blogging “competition” that seems so prevelant.

When I started blogging, it was a way to put into words what God was teaching me. And today, it is that plus a way to download what is going on and to share with other moms. I do view it a bit like ministry, I want my blog to be an encouragement to moms and a way to equip moms too. Your blog is always an encouragement to me and Even though there are times when I open my blog reader and see the same number I still read yours. In fact what I do is first read my favorites and then mark all others as read and start over. Some seasons in life are like that.

Thank you for the kind words of encouragement. I think I’ll start small by just post a few photos and maybe a Friday inspirational song for now. Again, thanks for your thoughts and prayers.

Kristine – my thoughts
**What is your purpose in blogging?
Our blog began as a family journal. When the girls left home Stacia was 2 weeks old. They grieved not being able to follow her childhood – a blog was born. It keeps us all “together”. This the bedrock REASON for my blog and what I come back to when time is short.
I quickly realized others were reading the blog. I decided (much as I do in real life) that I’d be real and that maybe seeing a glimpse into how we raise a large family, eat crunchy, homeschool, study the Bible…would help other “normal folks” see that it isn’t so unattainable….. It has become a ministry….but if time is short I try to post a quick “this is what we did” for family who don’t live with us.
** How do you overcome the “what do I write” or the “it needs to be crammed with substance to be good” roadblocks when you really have nothing to give that day?
After I was nominated for HSBA a couple of years ago I struggled with this. I didn’t know WHO HSBA were or that they were even having a contest. LOL But all of a sudden I felt I should be teaching and profound and wise beyond my years….and I lost sight of the fact that I blog as I said in our first post “for family and friends who feel that a 3 year assignment with our family is simply not long enough.” ::snort::
**How do you justify the time you spend blogging?
Frankly, I couldn’t justify it if it were simply a fun hobby for me…I know others can but I dont’ have enough hours in the day for such a time-consuming hobby. I justify it becuase when I don’t do it the 3 adult children….my parents…friends all write to say how much they miss knowing what we are doing. It’s my gift of service to them…and it’s grown to a much wider circle than I envisioned but I try to make sure amidst my ponderings, devotionals, appliance tips and recipes there is “family journaling” going on. LOL

Truth be told, I have all sorts of reasons to write. I want to share updates on my family, I want a place to write down my devotionals and share them with others so maybe they will be encouraged, and sometimes I write because I have a burden to share, or need to confess something. Sometimes I feel led to write something about myself that’s rather ugly, a part of me I like to hide, but afterwards, as I read my comments, I realize that having an always positive, always perky blog can be discouraging to others.

When I started blogging, it was because I had no outlet for my opinions. I read a lot, and thought a lot, and I was having some conversation on a forum, but I wanted a venue to write.
I like thinking and the debate of different topics. I make a little money from it, and I’ve met and interact with some great people. That’s part of the reason that I keep going.
I think that God’s given me the ability and desire to reach out to whoever will “listen” through this, and I’m delighted to be used to speak His truth.
