Modesty Articles
Carmen from Full Contact Christ-Centric Living has a wonderful little post about the importance of dressing modestly and some simple things for ladies to think about as they make their clothing choices. Here is a small excerpt:
I’m speaking from experience with my own sons and our conversations. I’ve also heard and read the testimony of godly young men who have expressed their gratefulness to young ladies for dressing modestly and not arousing sinful thoughts in them.
Please take a moment to read the rest of her article, Considerate Modesty.
My dear in real life friend, Rebecca, also addresses the subject of modesty on her fashion blog. She discusses how we can apply Proverbs 3:6, In all your ways acknowledge Him…. to what we choose to wear each day.
Please take some time to read this short and insightful post on Acknowledging God in What we Wear.
I also found a wonderful little blog entitled Maidens of Worth. They have a section entitled Maidens for Modesty. In this is included a statement of the Maidens for Modesty set of values. It show how they are endeavoring to honor God in the way they dress.
Please pop on over and read their Values for Maidens of Modesty.
Do You Need to DeClutter?
Do you need to declutter? This is something I struggle with but I have found an easy way to work on managing the amount of clutter in our home. What I attempt to do is to periodically grab 2 trash bags. One for goodwill and one for garbage. I go through the house and do not stop until both are filled. If I do this once a month, it helps me cut down on the clutter and the trash. This also helps to keep the youngins motivated to keep their things put away, after all Momma might throw it away. Sometimes I will give the children a bag and tell them they must fill it from their room before they can do anything else. It is a good way to declutter. If regular trash bags seem to overwhelming at first try smaller sized bags and fill them (Walmart bags work really well)!! That way when you move to a larger size bag you will be used to filling the bag rather than stopping short. Sometimes if I am on a roll, I keep going and end up with a couple bags worth! If you are on a roll don’t stop but make sure you do not stop before your one bag is finished.
Do you have any decluttering tips????
What Do Men Consider Immodest?
I ran across this site while browsing and think it is a wonderful resource. Do women really think about what a man sees as being immodest? What do they struggle with when it comes to fidelity of mind and do we place stumbling blocks in front of them by the way we dress, carry ourselves, or adorn ourselves? For instance some things that registered as immodest were: carrying your purse with the strap diagonally across the chest, showing any cleavage at all, or wearing nude colored clothing. It is very interesting to read about these things from the guys point of view rather than just our own.
The Modesty Survey is an exciting, anonymous discussion between Christian guys and girls who care about modesty. The honest truth is this: We’re not telling you what to wear — we’re just telling you what we, as guys, have to guard against. It is God’s Word, your own heart and conscience, and your parents and godly friends who should help you decide what to do about it.snippet from their website
Take some time and browse through their site and their findings at The Modesty Survey.
The Great Grandeur of the Lord
This post has been swimming around in my head for almost a year now. I decided I should finally tackle the task of trying to write it out.
The great grandeur of the Lord lies in who he is! Describing the Lord is an endless task but I would like to focus on two attributes. Ones that are often out of balance. He is transcendent and he is eminent. Both terms are 16th century Latin terms. Transcendence means God is the supreme and majestic ruler of the universe. He lives beyond ordinary understanding, he is beyond us. Eminence means to remain within, being nearby and not far away, able to be approached.
There is a disheartening trend in many churches and in the lives of many Christians today. Many have failed to find the balance between the two. Some will see and focus on his transcendency and see God as an unapproachable and uninvolved being. Other focus on his eminence and develop a peer view and become to casual. The culture we are in today takes more of the eminence to the extreme approach. It seems to me the great grandeur of the Lord has been lost.
This trend is very evident to those who are willing to open their eyes and look. Yet for those who are caught up in the modern movement of making God more “relevant”, accommodating individual styles of entertaining (movie clips & bumper sticker theology) rather than directing pure worship, trying to be “Be a Better You” type of philosophy will most likely not be able to see this.
God is eminent; this is true. If we are believers, we have been adopted into the family of God. We are children of God. We are co-heirs with Christ. Yet, we should not forget our meager beginnings and become too comfortable and spoiled. We must remember that Jesus is God. We must not minimize his divinity. We may be brothers and sisters to Christ but he is still God and we are not. The human family is designed to be a picture of the heavenly one, but we live in a fallen state. God himself uses the earthly family to show us how to relate to Him. But, we must not loose site of our fallen state in humanity. In our fallen condition our earthly families (siblings) fight, hate, slander, and even attack with violence against one another. This may be why in scripture God tells us there is one who sticks closer than a brother.
Have we become too familiar with Christ? Before your red flags fly, please hear me out. Do we really see and know him as GOD? Or have we reduced to him to the level of a buddy, just a friend, a confidant when convenient? As an example, I received a flyer from a local church in the mail. Let me share with you what it said. On the front were the words, “You won’t believe this is a church!” It was covered with all kinds of casual shoes each labeled with a different staff position. The flip-flops were labeled pastor. On the back were the times of the services. All of the children’s ministries were in conflict with the church services. Under the youth department were these words, “Get to know this Jesus dude. Playstation, Wiii, X-Box, …..”.
Many have taken the eminence of God to the extreme and the reverence, the righteousness, holiness, and the great grandeur of the Lord has been lost. Even the children of the king should approach him in a way that recognizes and honors the fact that he is the king. How much more reverence, awe and humbleness should the children of the King of all creation have in their approach? Yet, more than not, the children have become to comfortable and overlook their position before him and in doing so bring disrespect and a lack of honor before the throne.
Shoes!
This week’s Photo Hunt theme is shoes. Here is a very cute pair! There is nothing like playing dress up for a little girl. What do you think??
What Are You Building?
As mothers there is so much that we do. Often times when we allow ourselves to become discouraged we wonder if anyone notices or if we are making a difference. I would like to encourage you to continue on and refocus during those times when you might feel invisible or unappreciated.
