My God Is……….
I have a treat for you all today. I am posting an article written by my own dear husband! It is entitled, “My God Is.” You can also find me over at Heart of the Matter, the new April edition is up! I pray you have an especially blessed day and that my hubby’s article will either introduce you to or remind you of the great and awesome God who is the only one worthy of praise!
My God is one God, the Triune God – Father, Son and Holy Spirit – as revealed exclusively in the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. What I know and have experienced of Him is all that He has self-disclosed to humanity through His names and mighty acts as recorded in the Holy Scriptures and witnessed to in my life and the lives of those around me. He is sovereign and providentially reigns over and governs His creation. He is transcendent, absolutely holy, other and separate, yet He is imminent, personally involved and active in my daily life. He purposefully knit me in my mother’s womb and has ordained all my days before there was yet one of them. He knows when I sit and when I rise. He understands my thoughts from afar and is intimately acquainted with all my ways. There is nowhere I can flee from His presence for He is everywhere, holding me in His mighty right hand.In my God there is perfect balance between His mercy and His justice, between His compassion and His condemnation, between His righteous requirement (law) and His grace. He is both Redeemer and Consuming Fire, for with God there is no grey area – He is light and in Him there is no shifting shadow. He is not becoming, He is immutable; the same yesterday, today and forever. He is the one who comforts and convicts. He is a refuge, shield and defender. He is the avenger, judge and refiner. He is truth and He is love. He is always faithful to His covenant promise, will forgive the repentant, saves the sinner who believes and will cast out the reprobate. He is a rewarded of those who diligently seek Him and will in no way clear the guilty. He is the one to whom and for whom all things exist, jealous for His own glory.
According to the kind intention of His will, my God has blessed me with every spiritual blessing, choosing me before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless before Him. In unconditional love He predestined me to adoption as a son, to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on me in Christ Jesus – not according to anything I have done or any works of righteousness which He foresaw in me. It is only in the death and shed blood of Jesus Christ that I am redeemed, my transgressions pardoned, and through His bodily resurrection that the finality of death has been conquered and I have the promise and hope of eternal life. My heavenly Father has sealed to me this promise and inheritance through the gift of the Holy Spirit who indwells me.
Throughout history my God has chosen and called out from the masses of humanity a people for His own possession; to be a holy nation, a royal priesthood. His longsuffering and patience toward us has been evident since the dawn of time when He asked our first parents in the Garden of Eden, “Where are you?” Being both infinite in presence, knowledge and power, this was not a question from ignorance, but an invitation and election to resurrected community and communion with Him and one another. In my personal resurrection, because of His longsuffering and patience towards me, God’s blessing and favor is more than abundant in my life. He has imparted to me peace beyond measure in the crises of life, hope eternal when all else seems dark and doubtful, and blesses me with life abundant – fulfilled in my marriage with a loving, devoted, gracious, godly wife, amazing children that words cannot describe, and a spiritual family in His Church. My God has lovingly established for me a godly heritage and displays for me how His tender mercies toward me are new every day as I interact as a husband to my wife, father to my own children and friend to my spiritual brothers and sisters. How much love my Heavenly Father has for me!
I know Him as my Good Shepherd, my Lion of Judah, my Potter, my Lamb of God, my Light of the World, my Bread of Life, my Counselor, my Champion, my Refuge, my Strong Tower, my Healer, my Banner, my Peace, my Provider, my Deliverer, my Righteousness, my Comforter, my Friend – the one who hears me, sees me and intercedes on my behalf. A Man of Sorrows acquainted with all my grief He is my Redeemer, my Savior, my King, my Lord and my Resurrection and Life.
