My in-laws lived in Alaska for 3 years on a work assignment… and loved it! They were happy to move back to Idaho though… even t hose there is lots of snow in Couer d’Alene (where they live) it was warmer than Palmer, AK!

  19. MamaArcher Says:

Thanks for all the great comments! To answer a few of you….

We lived in Spokane for a few years and loved it! We would go to the beach in Lake Couer d’Alene and we would vacation at the Puget Sound! At least we will be able to visit again on our way further north and further west!

We did joke about getting an assignment in Fairbanks then we could live at the North Pole (Alaska of course).

  20. Mommy Reg Says:

Alaska! Wow, that will be really fun I am sure. The daylight hours will probably throw you for a loop. What a grand adventure.

Alaska is a lot like Hawaii in that the people who like to live on the edge move there. :-)

  23. bubbebobbie Says:

Everyone I know that has been stationed in Alaska loves it! Especially when the kids do their school work at 2:00 am because it is daylight outside! Are you going up to Fairbanks? Or Anchorage? Richardson or Wainwright?

Oh you will have a wonderful assignment!

    Because of Jesus, Bobbie

I just found your blog from another blog and saw the photos as I was scrolling down and I know that is Anchorage! I was stationed there at Elmendorf AFB and lived there for 8 years. We are now in the Seattle/Tacoma area and have lived here for a year and a half, but I dearly miss Alaska! ; )

  32. De'Etta Says:

I wondered if it was public yet. LOL

TAKE THE FERRY it is beautiful and even more special with children. You’ll get to meet some of my favorite chapel people. LOL

BTW – TAKE COATS on your trip – we went up in July and we froze on that ferry trip. By the time we left we were acclimated. LOL

And…don’t bother buying other winter gear down here to take – they don’t even sell coats down here as warm as the ones you can find at Value Village and Walmart in Anchorage. LOL

It’s an amazing assignment. You are blessed.
