Dual Post- Thursday Thirteen & Train Up a Child

Today is going to be a combined posting for Thursday Thirteen and for Train Up a Child. Below is a list of Thirteen Scriptures that are useful in teaching and training our children.

  1. For General Obedience: Colossians 3:20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
  2. For General Obedience: Exodus 20:12 “Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
  3. For Anger: Proverbs 14:29 Whoever is slow to anger has great understanding,
    but he who has a hasty temper exalts folly.
  4. For Anger: Proverbs 16:32 Whoever is slow to anger is better than the mighty,
    and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.
  5. For Urging a Child to Confess Sin: Proverbs 28:13 Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.
  6. For Urging a Child to Confess Sin: 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
  7. For Envy: Proverbs 14:30 A tranquil heart gives life to the flesh, but envy makes the bones rot.
  8. For Laziness: Proverbs 12:24 The hand of the diligent will rule, while the slothful will be put to forced labor.
  9. For Lying: Proverbs 12:19 Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
  10. For Lying: Proverbs 26:28 A lying tongue hates those it hurts, and a flattering mouth works ruin.
  11. For Stealing: Exodus 20:15 You shall not steal.
  12. For Tattling: Leviticus 19:16 You shall not go about as a talebearer among your people; nor shall you take a stand against the life of your neighbor: I am the LORD.
  13. For Tattling: Proverbs 17:9 Whoever covers an offense seeks love, but he who repeats a matter separates close friends.
