Classical Christian Education and the Large Family

I was asked to write about classical christian education and how well this method of teaching can be utilized in a large family. I will admit is seems to be a very daunting task. I did not know anything about classical christian education when we began using this form of teaching. I guess I grew into it. I am also not as rigorous as some when it comes to teaching in this manner and I have made some adjustments. I stumbles across this history curriculum one day and thought, “That really looks interesing.” It was Veritas Press history curriculum. I ordered that and the Bible curriculum and absolutely fell in love with it!! Imagine teaching history in order!! What an idea! Imagine teaching your biblical history and church history right along with it in context! I only wish I had been taught in this manner! I would have enjoyed it much more and understood things better and the bibilical timeline and church history would have actually seemed like history and more real if it had not been sectioned out!We have since learned more about teaching in the stages of the trivium and are stiving to do so. Since my children were older when we began I have several of them on the same levels for history and Bible and Latin (we are not as consistant with this as I would like), we sinply have the older children read at a higher level. This has helped greatly with the large family.I do have a child with dyslexia and the work is very difficult for him, I have joined him and his younger sister on the same level with history, Bible, and english. This helps alot!I really do like the Shurley English that Veritas Press recommends, it uses chants and jingles to help the younger children remember the english rules. This is also a big part of the grammar stage. It has been an enjoyable time and I am learning things right along with them.I will add a few links to the blog about classical christian education in case anyone wants to do a little bit more research on the method. Please feel free to add a comment or a question and I will do my best to answer.
